Dear Global Greens friends. I am Chan-hwi Kim, Co-chair of the Green Party of Korea.

The 5th Global Greens Congress concluded successfully in Songdo, Incheon, Korea, with the participation of more than 700 Green Party members and green politicians from 84 countries. More than 30 sessions were held, including four plenary sessions, and in-depth discussions were held on how to build international solidarity to defend life on earth, social justice, and democracy in the face of the deepening climate crisis.

The Congress adopted 19 resolutions, including an amendment to the Charter. The resolutions reflected discussions in plenary and parallel sessions on ecocide, climate refugees, AI, biodiversity, animal rights, and the rights of women, youth, children, indigenous peoples, and LGBTQ people. One resolution in particular, titled "Nuclear Waste Threat in the Pacific," “Condemns plans by the Japanese government to allow some 1.25 million tons of treated wastewater contaminated by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to be discharged into the Pacific Ocean.”

The resolution calls for "the immediate cessation of“ the dumping and ”the construction of a concrete and steel dam underground“ and ”Supports the Green Party of Japan and the Green Party Korea in their campaigns against further nuclear energy plants and against the dumping of nuclear waste in the Pacific.“

All members in Global Greens will build on the successes of this conference and continue the journey to achieve climate justice. Global Greens will be the alternative to international organizations like the United Nations when they are powerless to address the climate crisis.
